The Alice Prize

Friday, September 30th, 2005

This looks like a great opportunity to visit Alice Springs as the award is $15,000 (acquisitive) plus a 4-week residency in Alice Springs with airfares and accommodation. The Alice Prize is an invitational exhibition and pre-selection is open to any artist working in Australia. The Alice Prize is a national contemporary art award, first held in 1970. It is administered by the Alice Springs Art Foundation, a community-based voluntary organisation. Entries close on November 2, 2005,  and the exhibition is scheduled for May 19th to June 11th, 2006.

Index of Possibilities, 9 Milan Milojevic

Coming up in October is an exhibition of Milan Milojevic’s prints which combine traditional techniques with digital.  The woodblocks and etchings are enriched with digital emphasis, but still maintain the integrity of the hand worked images.  "Imaginary Worlds" is the title for the Port Jackson Press Gallery exhibition, on show from October 8 to November 5.  Milan’s "…work explores notions of self-portraiture and cultural identity, depicting hybrid creatures or beasts based on those described by poet and writer Jorges Luis Borges in his Book of Imaginary Beings." (Imprint, Spring 2005).  The exhibition will also be online from October 6 on the Port Jackson Press site.
