HIP Barbeque

Sunday, December 4th, 2005

Today was annual bbq event that brings together the Hunter Island Press members for a bit of casual banter and of course the chance to meet other members.  Tracey chose the lovely Cascade Gardens in South Hobart and bunch of us turned up to fry meat and clink glasses.

After torrential rain yesterday, the ground was a bit on the soft and spongy side, but the garden was fresh and the Cascade Creek which runs through the middle of the site was sparkling and full.

Of course the day was also a chance to get a look at the proposed site for the community studio, which is what HIP is all about.  The site, located in Rosny on the eastern shore of Hobart, is an old education building which offers plenty of space for the different methods of printmaking our members engage in, as well as the planned classes.

The Cascade Gardens were originally developed along with the Cascade Brewery which sits at the top of the gardens.  The creek was of course the essential water source for the brewery, with its classic clean mountain freshness to make the beer that extra tasty!
