Milan Milojevic is curating an exhibition at the Plimsoll Gallery. This is good news as he is in an enviable position of having his finger on the pulse of current artists who are doing exceptional work. He descibes “Deluxe” as a decorous crossover between art and design. The artists, Fred Fisher, Ona Kaukenous, Megan Keating, Fiona Lee, Karen Lunn, Adrian Read, Richard Skinner and Lucia Usamiani each have a section of the gallery to fill as they desired. Megan Keating has three works on show, each constructed with her meticulous attention to detail as she has sliced away paper to create images in vibrant colour.
The exhibition is at the Plimsoll Gallery, which is located on the ground floor of the Tasmanian Unviersity Art School in Hunter Street, Hobart, runs until May 26th and is open from 12 noon to 5pm daily.

The first exhibition for Hunter Island Press in 2006 is the Mini Print Sale. This was great fun last year and a very sucessful event for everyone involved. It works like this - the printmakers work to a specific size, in this case 21cm x 21cm, producing any number of prints they want. The print sale has an opening night and the prints are displayed in rows. Then everyone gets a chance to buy the prints at a single price, in 2005 it was $20 each. You have to be active and speedy at times to select the print you want as people move quite effectively around the displays selecting prints! Spaces are refilled from the stockpiles and there is no specific order to the selection, so you need to keep browsing through the evening the find the new prints. The artist receives half of the payment, and the rest goes to HIP to meet the costs of the exhibition and for future development of the community print studio. Mini Print 2006 is going to be in June, so keep an eye out for the details to catch a bargain!
