Exploring the Southland: a Contemporary Response to the Maps of the Lamprell Collection

A number of members who are post graduate candidates at the Tasmania School of Art are taking part in the year long project “Tasmania - Australia on the Map 1606 - 2006″. In a joint project with the maritime Museum of Tasmania they will produce contemporary interpretations of the maps from this renowned collection. These will be displayed in the School of Art in Hunter Street, Hobart, between 9.30am and 4.30 pm week days from the 24th of November.
The original maps and charts were collected by Dr Bernard Lamprell, a respected author and a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society, London. Dr Lamprell bequeathed his collection to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and the Maritime Museum of Tasmania who are proud to make the collection available for viewing at the Carnegie Gallery, 16 Argyle street, Hobart from 25 November until 06 January, 2007. Opening hours are 10am to 5pm daily.
