Hunter Island Press in association with four other Australian printmaking studios and Surf Life Saving Australia has recently embarked on the Tasmanian leg of this exciting exhibition which features 113 prints by 78 print artists from across Australia using virtually every print medium. The images are 12cm x 12cm so that they can be mounted in CD cases for ease of transport and display although most of the rest of each edition are printed on 17cm x 17cm paper (except for a few bleed prints). Each studio also has two sets of prints for sale at prices varying from $40.

The idea for the print exchange/exhibition project was the brainchild of Impress Printmakers Studio in Brisbane www..org.au and includes work from Newcastle Printmakers Workshop, Warringah Printmakers Studio www.printstudio.org.au (both of N.S.W.) and the Printmakers Association of Western Australia www.pawa.iinet.net.au
The theme of the work is a celebration ofthe work of perhaps Australia’s most iconic organisation, Surf Life Saving Australia who this year are celebrating 100 years since their founding at Bondi Beach in Sydney in 1907. Their theme is “2007 The Year of the Surf Lifesaver” www.ysl.slsa.com.au and I’m sure that they would be more than happy for you to get involved with them through donations or any one of their other activities.
Each studio has taken responsibility to work with their local Surf Life Saving organisation to get the work shown and, through this to promote the valuable work of our lifesavers.

Although we have had the work on display at the Penguin Surf Life Saving Club since the 17th of February the “official” opening will take place during the Burnie meet on the 10th and 11th of March so if you are in the north of the state perhaps you will get a chance to catch it there.Afterwards it will be moved to the Moonah Arts Centre in Glenorchy in the south before returning to Launceston where it will be picked up by Tasmanian Regional Arts for their winter/spring touring program throughout the rest of the state.For those who are unable to get to a showing we have included an example of work from each studio below and will post a more comprehensive, although less detailed overview after the official opening.
