2009 Hutchins Art Prize

This year the Hutchins Art Prize is an acquisitive award for works on paper. Artists throughout Australasia may enter.

First prize is $15,000. Entries close 19 June.

KIRSTY GRANT (Chief Judge) – Senior Curator of 20th Century Australian Art, National Gallery of Victoria. RON McBURNIE – Printmaker, lecturer in Visual Art, James Cook University, Townsville, QLD. THERESE KENYON – Director, Manly Art Gallery & Museum, NSW. MARIA ZAGALA – Assoc Curator Prints, Drawings and Photographs, Art Gallery of South Australia. CHRISTOPHER HALL – Former Co-Curator of the Hutchins Collection.

DIMENSIONS OF WORKS IN FINAL EXHIBITION

Any wall mounted work to be included in the final exhibition is to be no greater than 250 cm in height or width, and 50 cm in depth. Any three dimensional work to be included in the final exhibition is to have a maximum footprint of 1 metre squared. Its longest dimensions must not exceed 250 cm.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Entries will be judged according to the following criteria:

• Strength of creative concept
• Originality of artistic perception
• Mastery of chosen medium

SUBMISSION DETAILS

Artists must submit with this entry form:

• A non-refundable entry fee of $45 (including GST).
• A one-page (A4) CV summarising current biographical and exhibition details.
• One image of the work on TIF or JPG files, 5MB maximum, submitted on CD. With complex or large entries, an extra detail study may assist the judges to read the work more accurately. Maximum images two. Slides are not acceptable. Mark all CDs with the artist’s name and the title of the work.

ENTRIES CLOSE: Friday 19 June
PRE-SELECTION: Monday 22 June to Monday 3 August
FINALISTS NOTIFIED BY: Friday 14 August
WORKS TO HUTCHINS SCHOOL: Friday 16 October
FINAL JUDGING: Monday 19 October
EXHIBITION: Tuesday 20 October to Sunday 1 November
COLLECTION OF WORKS: Monday 2 November
