Bert Aperloo

Bert Aperloo is a Tasmanian Furniture Designer and Printmaker

“Furniture making and drawing have been hobbies of mine for many years and in 2002 I enrolled at the University of Tasmania’s School of Art to initially learn more about contemporary furniture design and improve my furniture making skills. Three years later I started Printmaking and liked it so much that I made it my second Major. I find the mark making quite an enjoyable process. As you cut the wood or incise the plate you see the image slowly building up before your eyes. Some of these images can take up to 30 hours to complete.

Furniture and printmaking are quite complimentary modalities, as I’ve used my woodworking skills to create print installations and I incorporate my aluminium dry point and steel etching plates into pieces of furniture. For more information click the link at the top of this page.”

Bert Aperloo was born in Holland in 1946 and moved for work to South Africa in 1969. In 1977 he immigrated to Australia, where he spent the first 15 years in Melbourne and came to Hobart in 1992. After obtaining a Master of Education Degree with a major in counselling in 1999 he spent many years working in the Community Services Industry.
