Studio Location
The Department of Economic Development, through Arts Tasmania have generously offered the use of some buildings for Hunter Island Press to set up a studio. The heritage listed Wirksworth House in Bellerive on the Eastern Shore has several smaller buildings within the grounds of this magnificent historic site. Building ‘c’ has become the new meeting and workshop location for HIP. The upstairs area is now decked out with beaut wide tables and the bright atmosphere is welcoming and warm.
The studio can be found by turning off the Howrah main road into Wentworth Street alongside Clarence High School. On the corner of Wentworth Street and South Street you will find Wirksworth House.

The interior of the meeting and workshop room
Although we are still awaiting final approval from the Tribunal this room will be suitable for working with projects which don’t use ink or need a wet area, such as artist’s talks, exhibitions or book making.

The exterior of Building ‘C’ shows the solid sandstone construction.

This smaller building has also been renovated for our use and may become our screenprinting room.

The downstairs of Building C will be renovated by the Department of Economic Development as funds become available (hopefully within the next 3-4 months). This will be the main working area for printmaking.
Currently Hunter Island Press members intend to meet on a monthly basis at the studio to discuss printmaking news and issues. Check the calendar page or email to finds out the next meeting date.
